JANUARY is Weight Loss Awareness Month. Of course the start of the new year with all those “I am going to lose weight” resolutions… makes sense that the Government would make January “Weight Loss Awareness” month. So in an effort to help patients with recognizing what dietary recommendations may work best for them Zimetry ( http://www.zimetry.com ) is offering Apo E phenotype testing.
APO E dietary recommendations are well discussed in detail in Pamela McDonalds’ book “The APO E Gene Diet”, but first you need to know your genotype…so a blood or buccal swab test can achieve this, letting you know what phenotype of ApoE you have (e3/e3; if you possess a e2 or e4 allele).
ApoE historically has been used to assess RISK for developing late-onset dementia, but it is a wealth of information about how to best manage weight and lipids.
